A-series poster size guide

A0 to A4, measured and mapped.

Use the chart for the standard paper conversion. Use the calculator for the layout your home printer can actually produce with margins and overlap.

These counts compare full sheets. Most printers leave an unprinted border. The practical count below includes that margin and the overlap used to align neighboring pages.

How the A-series scales

Each A-series step halves the area while keeping the same proportions. Fold A0 in half to get A1, fold A1 to get A2, and continue to A4. This is why one A0 has the same area as sixteen A4 sheets.

The simple relationship is useful for planning, but a home printer cannot normally print to the edge. Use the calculator when the final dimensions matter.

Print without changing the scale

Download the tiled PDF and choose Actual size or 100% in the print dialog. Turn off Fit, Shrink, and Scale to page. Run the 100 mm printer test before a pattern or measured template.

After printing, follow the assembly guide to trim only the joining edges and match the repeated image strip.

FAQ

How many A4 sheets make an A1 poster?

An A1 sheet has the same area as eight A4 sheets. A home-printer layout can require more than eight sheets because printable margins and overlap reduce the usable area of each page.

Can I print A0 on an A4 printer?

Yes. Split the A0 artwork into a tiled PDF, print each page at Actual size or 100%, then trim and join the labeled sheets.

Why does the calculator show more sheets than the simple conversion chart?

The chart compares full paper areas. The calculator reserves safe printer margins and repeats a narrow overlap strip for alignment, so the practical page count can be higher.
