How the page count is calculated
The calculator starts with the printable area of each sheet, then subtracts the safe margin and the repeated overlap used to align neighboring pages. It divides the target poster width and height by that usable area to find the required columns and rows.
The total sheet count is rows multiplied by columns. The result also shows the assembled dimensions, so you can see whether the chosen grid runs slightly wider or taller than the target size.

A0, A1, A2, and A3 on A4 paper
A-series paper doubles in area at each step. Without printer margins, A3 uses two A4 sheets, A2 uses four, A1 uses eight, and A0 uses sixteen. A home printer cannot normally reach every edge, so safe margins and overlap may add a row or column.

A4 or Letter?
A4 measures 210 × 297 mm and is standard in most countries. US Letter measures 8.5 × 11 inches and is common in the United States, Canada, and parts of Latin America.
Choose the paper that is actually loaded in the printer; changing the paper size can change both rows and columns. Compare portrait and landscape orientation when you want to reduce joins or use fewer sheets.
Before an exact-size print
A calculated layout is only as accurate as the printer setting. Print at Actual sizeor 100%, and turn off Fit, Shrink, or Scale to page. Those options change the final dimensions even when the PDF itself is correct.
